Have your say on the draft Townsville SDA Development Scheme

Closes 10 Dec 2018

Opened 29 Oct 2018

Overview

The Coordinator-General is proposing changes to the Townsville State Development Area (SDA) development scheme to attract further investment and accelerate development in the Townsville SDA.

The intent of the Townsville SDA remains unchanged and will continue to facilitate industrial development of regional, state and national significance in proximity to the Port of Townsville, national freight rail and road networks.

You are invited to have your say on the draft development scheme.

Key proposed changes include:

  • rationalising the number of precincts from 12 and two sub precincts, to seven precincts to reduce complexity, provide clarity around expected development and improve flexibility
  • regulating reconfiguring a lot and operational works for the clearing of native vegetation to improve development coordination and streamline assessment processes
  • introducing SDA self-assessable development for reconfiguring a lot carried out by, or on behalf of, the Coordinator-General
  • identifying development that does not require public consultation
  • standardising the format of the development scheme and a range of minor mapping changes to precinct boundaries to reflect updated environmental constraints mapping.

There are no proposed changes to the Townsville SDA boundary.
